Not a lot to add that differs from the introduction on the home page.  I have always had a fondness for antique radios and for radio-related hobbies.  I collect antique radios (but own several new radios because of changes in technology and radio use) and I am a ham radio operator.

The digital revolution changed the amateur radio hobby so much, by introducing us to a new world of possibilities in digital communication, that I recently put my antique ham radio into backup status and upgraded to a solid state radio with digital signal processing.  It does not detract from my love of the antique radios, it just makes me appreciate the evolving electronics field even more.

Some of you may not be aware that in addition to the normal am and fm stations, there still remains a world of shortwave listening that opens up the ability to listen to stations from all over the world.  Each opportunity to turn on a radio capable of receiving those frequencies is a new adventure.  You could hear the same news events being presented in entirely different light by various countries, clandestine radio stations broadcasting without a license, or emergency broadcasts from local or exotic places.  Several times each week I listen to English broadcasts from Radio Taiwan International, Radio China International, Radio Netherlands, the British Broadcasting Corporation and others.  The different perspectives and cultural approaches can be fascinating.  A relatively inexpensive radio and a willingness to tune and listen is all it takes.
